100% Polwarth Wool

I knit these socks with a gorgeous fingering weight sock yarn handspun by Leith. The yarn is 100% Polwarth - a breed of sheep found primarily in New Zealand and Australia. The breed was developed by crossing the English Lincoln - a lustrous sheep - with the Merino (super fine) and then back crossing onto the Merino. So the yarn is very close to the softness of the Merino, but with a lustre added from the Lincoln.

The heels and toes are reinforced with a colour coordinated Wooly Nylon.

The colours of the yarn remind me of the colours in the picture card of the Kiwi - great greens and yellows with a judicious inclusion of pale sky blues.

The Polwarth is considered a felting wool, so these socks are HAND WASH as you would any delicate fibre, and dry flat. That being said - if you have a newer washing machine with a wool/handwash cycle - you can turn them inside out and wash on that cycle in a dainties bag. (I did that after I knit them.)

There are a one of a kind pair of socks.
