Merinos are the oldest established sheep breed in the world, are are possessed of the finest , softest fleeces. The breed was developed in Spain, and until the decline of the Spanish Empire in the 18th century it was a capital offence to export them. Gradually, however, the breed spread to other parts of Europe, and the Merinos were the first sheep breeed established in New Zealand.
The 100% Merino yarns I use are hand painted in small batches, making each pair of socks in this category a limited edition. I reinforce the heels and toes with Wooly Nylon for added durability.
